Dreams eventually come true for Osborne and Costello after dramatic success

Jamie Osborne was made to sit and suffer for a quarter of an hour while jockey Dougie Costello sat before the Deauville stewards but the end result provided relief as Pursuing The Dream kept the Listed Prix de la Vallee d’Auge - Etalon Kendargent.

A maiden after six starts, the well-bred daughter of Dream Ahead had been set some stiff tasks on home soil, as she finished sixth in the Queen Mary at odds of 150-1.

French punters were not quite so dismissive as her late charge rewarded backers at 19-1.

“We took a view that we could probably win a maiden anytime we wanted to in England but that we would take the opportunity to get some black type,” said Osborne.

“She has a lovely pedigree and she is pretty flexible in terms of ground.

“There isn’t an awful lot for a filly like her in England so she might go to Ayr for the Harry Roseberry.”

Almost a dream come true for Elsworth

A clean sweep of the day’s four Pattern races for British trainers –Stan Moore also took the opening claimer with Controversial Lady – looked likely deep into the final furlong of the Group 3 Prix de Lieurey but Tisbutadream and Ryan Moore were caught on the line by the fast finishing Lady Frankel and Pierre-Charles Boudot.

“She is really tough,” said David Elsworth of the Dream Ahead three-year-old, who started life in the Ridgewood Pearl colours of Sean and Anne Coughlan but who was bought at the Goffs London sale by Leicester City owner Vichai Srivaddhanaprabha.

“She always leaves her heart out on the track but the winner came flying down the outside and she had no chance to fight.

"But I am very satisfied and if the two of them had been closer there would have been a battle. She might get further [than a mile] and we might come back here.”
