Friday: Bahrain

Danny Tudhope missed out on a lucrative first prize when Jason Watson was aboard Lord Glitters in the Bahrain International Trophy last year, but the rider put that right when guiding Dubai Future to victory in the race on Friday.

Tudhope has become a go-to guy for Dubai Future's trainer Saeed bin Suroor this year and had the six-year-old in the perfect position just off the leaders.

Entering the straight, he picked up pleasingly and was able to see off stablemate Passion And Glory, while Riocorvo was third.

Tudhope had a fine association with the popular grey Lord Glitters and was on top for his top-flight wins in the Queen Anne and Jebel Hatta.

However, he was injured last year, so Watson partnered the now-retired gelding 12 months ago when he struck, claiming the scalp of Dubai Future, who won the Wolferton at Royal Ascot in June.

"We've tried to win this race in the last few years with no luck, but this year we had two runners and had first and second," said Bin Suroor. "It was a good result and Dubai Future ran a good race.

"He's improved a lot this year and he won at Royal Ascot. Physically and mentally, he was better than last year and we thought he was the right horse again for this race."

The Sakhir feature boasted prize-money of £600,000 with £360,000 on offer for the winner.

"It was disappointing not be here last year, but it was nice to see the old horse do it – he's been a superstar for connections and it's great to be here today," said Tudhope. "Godolphin had a strong hand, so I'm delighted one won and thankfully it was me.

"I was hopeful. His last run wasn't too bad and he likes the fast ground, while he's a handy little horse to have whizzing round those bends.

"The race went to plan and I had a nice, handy position and he picked up well. He travelled well and relaxed nicely. They put on a great show here and they look after you so well – it's a lovely place to come."
