Bricks And Mortar delivers rock solid performance to land Pegasus World Cup Turf
Pegasus World Cup Invitational Stakes (Grade 1) | 1m1½f | 3yo+ | Turf |
Trainer Chad Brown was rewarded for his patience with Bricks And Mortar in no uncertain terms as the five-year-old ran out an impressive winner of the inaugural Grade 1 Pegasus World Cup Turf.
After spending in excess of a year off the track, Bricks And Mortar won on his comeback at Gulfstream Park and took a major step forward at the scene of that return, firmly establishing his dominance on the field with a potent turn of foot to put the race to bed.
Brown said to NBC: "I'm so proud of this horse. We managed to get him back after a couple of issues which required a lot of time and patience.
"I am so happy for the owners and the team have done a great job to do right by the horse."
Magic Wand, whose finest hour came when accounting for the top-class Wild Illusion in the Ribblesdale Stakes at Royal Ascot last season by four lengths, produced a typically smart effort in defeat to flash home for second with Delta Prince running a huge race for Frankie Dettori to fill the placings.
The William Mott-trained Yoshida, who boasted a fifth placed finish behind Accidental Agent in last year's Queen Anne Stakes among his form, was never able to get involved.
