Unsettled forecast prompts inspections at Leicester and Down Royal

1 of 1

Wednesday's meetings at Leicester and Down Royal will have to survive morning inspections if they are to go ahead.

Leicester is subject to an inspection at 7.45am, with officials hoping for a largely dry 24 hours, while Down Royal will check the track at 8am.

The going at Leicester is heavy on the hurdles track and soft on the chase track, but the course cannot take much more rainfall according to clerk Jimmy Stevenson.

"The ground is sodden – we can't take a lot of rain," he said. "We raced last week and it took a battering as it rained heavily the following day and got into the ground."

Anywhere between two and six millimetres of rain is forecast for the area on Wednesday morning.

The ground at Down Royal is already heavy, and the track management tweeted on Tuesday afternoon: "There will be a precautionary inspection @Downroyal at 8am in the morning due to an adverse weather forecast."
