Sam Twiston-Davies hopes to be out of hospital by the end of this week as he continues to recover from the effects of a horror fall at Chepstow on Sunday, but there is no indication as yet of a possible date for his return to the saddle.

Paul Nicholls' stable jockey, who is in second place in the championship behind Richard Johnson, said on Tuesday morning: "I'm on some pretty good painkillers and don't feel too bad. I'm a lot better now and I think I'll be changing wards today.

"Hopefully I'll be able to convince the doctors to let me out before the end of the week."
