If further evidence was needed that jockeys are made of granite then Jonjo O'Neill Jr provided it when escaping unscathed from a dramatic unseat at Exeter on Friday.
The jockey was riding Also Known As for father Jonjo O'Neill on his hurdling debut in the 2m5½f novice contest and was unlikely to have predicted what was to come when the four-year-old came home in his own time after becoming tailed off.
Also Known As, a point-to-point winner racing in the famous colours of Fitri Hay, had safely negotiated ten hurdles but took a dislike to the last and sent O'Neill Jr spiralling head first towards the ground on the other side of the obstacle.
Thankfully, the Grade 1-winning rider avoided any injury in the incident.
Although only three of the eight runners completed in an incident-packed race, everything went smoothly for Harry Cobden as he steered 4-7 favourite Outlaw Peter to an easy 19-length victory.
