Hugo Palmer says his Powerful Breeze is a big price for Fillies' Mile
Hugo Palmer believes his Group 1 bet365 Fillies' Mile contender Powerful Breeze may have been underestimated as she bids for a first win at the highest level on Friday.
The daughter of Iffraaj is unbeaten in two career starts, most recently running out a stylish winner of the Group 2 May Hill Stakes at Doncaster last month and Palmer thinks the general 6-1 being offered by bookmakers could prove generous at Newmarket.
"Powerful Breeze is a big price considering she has proven form whereas some of the opposition have a bit to find," said the trainer.
"She'll handle the track fine as we took her for a racecourse gallop to the Rowley Mile for that purpose the other week and she handled it beautifully."
Powerful Breeze worked nicely under James Doyle on that occasion, prompting connections to stump up £40,000 to add her to the field for Friday's £500,000 contest.
Palmer added: "Powerful Breeze should handle the ground if it's on the soft side and she goes there in great shape."
The May Hill has provided a key guide to the Fillies' Mile in recent years with Laurens the latest to win both races in 2017, following the likes of Certify (2012), Lyric Of Light (2011), White Moonstone (2010) and Rainbow View (2008), who also completed the double.
Aidan O'Brien has won three of the last five runnings of the Fillies' Mile and could be represented by Moyglare Stud Stakes winner Love.
The daughter of Galileo is a best-priced 7-2 with Ladbrokes, Paddy Power and Betfair with unbeaten duo Quadrilateral and Cayenne Pepper heading the market at a general 9-4 and 3-1 respectively.
Quadrilateral, trained by Roger Charlton, was also supplemented on the back of an impressive nine-length victory in a conditions stakes at Newbury last month.
Jessica Harrington has enjoyed a fantastic season with her juvenile fillies, most recently celebrating top-level success on Arc day with Albigna in the Prix Marcel Boussac, and will bid for more Group 1 glory with Cayenne Pepper, who extended her winning sequence to three with a Group 3 success at the Curragh in August.
