How can racing increase its appeal? What you're saying
This week the Racing Post has been asking an important question: how can racing increase its appeal? It's a hot topic and earlier this week we asked you for your suggestions. Here are just a few from Facebook and Twitter so far
Cheaper tickets for younger audience and regulars. Loyalty schemes. Less low-grade AW racing. More transparency. More education about racing.

Show all other sports in the bars and around the course. Encourage markets on the same day as racing. Provide more racing events than just the horses.
William Weir, via Facebook
Eradicate segregation and make going racing financially viable including food prices and quality. Raise jockey profiles in national media.

Lower the entry price, give everyone who pays to get in a racecard, make it more family-friendly and stop serving alcohol to people who are drunk.
Cath Warren, via Facebook
Provide more places for people to sit as it's a long time to be standing for many people. The provision of seating is appalling at most courses.
Nicholas Bishop, via Facebook
Free entry for kids at all major meetings, they're the future so get them interested from an early age!
Gary Robinson, via Facebook
Hand out half-price racecourse tickets in betting shops.
Joyce Christian, via Facebook
Promote the smaller racecourses. I was at Cartmel for the Whit Monday meeting recently, best meeting I've been to by a long chalk, something for everyone. There was a funfair for youngsters, it had the lot as well as quality racing which was affordable.
Ryan Love, via Facebook
Open the gates on a big day and let everyone in free. Let the public get a feel for it.
Martina Murphy-dunne, via Facebook
Stop having meetings close together at the same time or on the same day. Haydock and Chester at the same time – no wonder the gate numbers are small as well as the fields.
Dougie Moffat, via Facebook
Better quality racing for a start. Cut down on low-grade fixtures, especially on AW. Make it more accessible to youngsters by providing free entry.
Kris via Twitter
Simple, send those in power to racing around the world to discover how expensive it is just to get on British racecourses and how ridiculously expensive food and drink is.
Peter Bamford, via Facebook
Do a loyalty card scheme. Every time you attend any race track you get a stamp – once you've done three or four, you get free entry to next.
Taters, via Twitter
There are too many bad meetings. Who wants to pay top dollar to watch a bunch of selling platers? I would also allow owners to have whatever they like on their silks. Diabolos, chevrons and hoops are boring. I would like to see hot air balloons, snowmen and fish etc.
Mark Jolly, via Facebook
It's not advertised particularly well to young people. Unless you start from a betting perspective, you wouldn't know about it.
Nick Murphy, via Twitter
Have more choice of foods in all enclosures instead of just the standard burgers, chips and hot dogs, which cost stupid prices!
Gareth Robinson, via Facebook
Decimal odds. Most people just don't understand fractional. Seems to work in Hong Kong, Singapore and Australia.
Alex Leonidas, via Facebook
Target the racegoer with personalised treatment to enhance his/her experience.
