'He's the one they've got to beat' - Saturday's most eyecatching trainer quotes
After a difficult day for the bookmakers at Glorious Goodwood on Thursday, they regained some control with a few big-priced winners on Friday. A number of favourites were also defeated on day five of the Galway festival, so punters will be desperate to fight back during Saturday's action. Two valuable handicaps and a tasty Group 2 offers the perfect opportunity for many to end the Goodwood festival on a high. Here we pick out six key quotes from trainers about their runners.
1.40 Goodwood: Coral Stewards' Sprint Handicap, 6f
Karl Burke, trainer of Lethal Levi:
"He's on a big upward curve and is well in at the weights. We have to give it a go. It appears we've frightened a few people off. If he reproduces his last run he's the one they've got to beat."
Forecast SP: 13-8
2.10 Goodwood: Coral Summer Handicap (Class 2), 1m6f
Chris Wall, trainer of Bague D'Or:
"For once, I didn't complain about the 3lb rise he got from his last win. It looks like he'll go and win by a long way, but doesn't. That could be because he's lazy or maybe that's as good as he is. We'll find out and I think he's still progressing."
Forecast SP: 15-2
Peter Fahey, trainer of Ambitious Fellow:
"On his runs it looks as though the step up in trip will suit him. It’s a bit of a gamble, but he’s a horse that’s improving and I think he’ll run a big race. He had a great comeback at Punchestown and has had two nice runs since, and won nicely at Roscommon. The ground seems as though it’ll be just right."
Forecast SP: 11-1
Aidan O'Brien, trainer of Emily Dickinson:
"She seems to have come out of her run in the Irish Oaks well – we were delighted with her last time [when fourth] at the Curragh. She's stepping back up to a mile and six furlongs here, and seemed to be happy at that trip a couple of starts ago at Leopardstown."
Forecast SP: 2-1
Roger Teal, trainer of Whenthedealisdone:
"He's won at Goodwood over five furlongs and I'm confident he'll be suited by the six there. We think he's got a nice draw in stall 25. It's the Stewards' Cup – a bit of a lottery – but he's in good form and has a definite chance."
Forecast SP: 9-1
