Champion jump jockey Richard Johnson is to be honoured when Hereford reopens its doors on October 6.

The former Silks restaurant is being renamed the Rusty Bridge restaurant after locally-born Johnson's first winner, who he rode to score at the course in April 1994.

Hereford's executive director Rebecca Davies said: "We wanted to do something to recognise the enormous contribution Richard Johnson has made throughout his career to jump racing, especially given that Richard is Herefordshire-born and bred and so well respected in the area."
