Connections have paid tribute to the "honest and brave" We Have A Dream, who died on the gallops on Saturday morning.

Simon Munir and Isaac Souede's five-year-old was one of the stars of the juvenile hurdling division last season, winning the Finale Hurdle at Chepstow and the Anniversary Hurdle at Aintree.

The Nicky Henderson-trained hurdler continued to run well in Graded company this season and was last seen finishing second in the County Hurdle carrying 11st 11lb. He was scheduled to run in the Aintree Hurdle on Thursday.

Henderson said following the news that We Have A Dream broke his leg while working: "It's a very sad day. He was unbeaten last year – although he missed the Triumph Hurdle he was the top juvenile. We had him back to his best at Cheltenham last time and we were really looking forward to taking him to Aintree.

"You couldn't have a nicer character in the yard than We Have A Dream, he was just lovely and so uncomplicated. He was just a joy to have around the place, he always worked well and he would eat everything. You love horses who are the good ones and the nice ones and he was both."

Anthony Bromley, racing manager for Munir and Souede, said: "Sadly We Have A Dream died on the gallops this morning. It is upsetting news for all the owners and the staff at Seven Barrows, so our thoughts go out to them.

"He had been a good, honest and brave horse throughout his career for us and won a couple of Grade 1 races. I thought he ran possibly a career-best when second in the County Hurdle off a big weight.

"He was put up to a handicap mark of 160 on the back of that run and we were really looking forward to taking on Buveur D'Air in the Aintree Hurdle on Thursday. We had novice chasing to look forward to with him as well."
