Henderson saddened by loss of 'wonderful' Towcester

The news racing will cease at Towcester has been described as a tragedy by five-time champion jumps trainer Nicky Henderson.

No-one saddled more winners at the Northamptonshire venue in the last five seasons than Henderson, whose 11 winners from 25 runners came at a healthy 44 per cent strike-rate.

He reacted with dismay and concern when learning any hopes racing would return to the track had evaporated on Tuesday, when the owners of the course confirmed the sale of ten fixtures to Arena Racing Company (Arc).
