Fourth, Leicester, Thursday

Given One Night In Milan is a winner at up to 3m1f over hurdles, the drop back to 1m2f was never really going to play to the strengths of Keith Dalgleish's runner in the second division of the novice event on only his second Flat start.

This 137-rated hurdler was predictably outpaced when the tempo increased halfway up the home straight in a race run at just an ordinary gallop, but he wasn't unduly knocked about in the closing stages as he finished fourth behind a couple of useful sorts in Mahrajaan and Forza Orta.

The handicapper certainly can't go overboard for either of his Flat runs so far and, while he is likely to remain vulnerable in this type of event, he will be of much more interest when he goes up in distance and is switched to run-of-the-mill handicaps. [Richard Young]

Third, Leopardstown, Thursday

The bare form of this race is only fair, but Chestnutter looked a most unlucky loser having been caught in a pocket against the far rail for much of the home straight.

Although her rider extricated her in the last furlong, the Noel Meade-trained juvenile had just a bit too much ground to make up on and she went down by a head and the same behind newcomer Red Linn and second favourite Butterfly Island.

She would almost certainly have won granted a clear run and she can make amends in similar company or when she goes into ordinary nurseries. She is proven on testing ground and a sound surface and should stay a mile in due course. [Richard Young]

Third, Nottingham, Friday

Glenamoy Lad didn't enjoy much luck and clearly ran significantly better than the bare form of this three-and-a-quarter-length defeat reflects.

Outpaced early, the Jennie Candlish-trained sprinter found trouble on at least two occasions once grabbing hold of the bridle over a furlong out, prior to rocketing home for third.

He is on a lengthy losing run dating back to October 2018 but has become attractively handicapped – now 29lb below his last success – and could well pop up at a price in the coming weeks over a stiff 6f. [Marcus Buckland]

Fourth, Haydock, Friday

Forgivable, a nicely bred son of Iffraaj, made a highly encouraging debut and can add to his family's fine record.

The Tim Easterby-trained colt cost 40,000gns as a yearling and is a half-brother to five winners, notably Misheer, who hacked up in what was then the Cherry Hinton Stakes as a two-year-old in 2009 and then chased home subsequent 1,000 Guineas heroine Special Duty in the Cheveley Park.

Sent off at 28-1, Forgivable wasn't given a hard ride once it was obvious he wasn’t going to be involved in the finish and, while it remains to be seen how strong this novice was, he shaped as though he can leave the run behind in due course. [David Toft]

Winner, Stratford, Sunday

It's not very often that I add a winner to the tracker, but I'll make an exception for the lightly-raced nine-year-old, trained by Nicky Henderson, as it was hard not to be impressed by the way he scored on his belated chasing debut following a 527-day absence.

Considerable credit must be given to Nico de Boinville, who did well to stay aboard and then get an iron back after a serious error towards the end of the first circuit, but that was the only blemish on an otherwise faultless display as he drew 23 lengths clear of his nearest pursuer.

The gelding was having just his fifth start since winning a Bangor handicap hurdle off 107 in October 2018, so he has clearly had his share of problems, but it is significant that his top connections have persevered and quite possible he will run up a sequence before the handicapper gets his measure.
