Harbour Law set to land Horse Of The Year gong for Mongan
The old racing adage ‘there is no such thing as a certainty’ will be tested to the max on Saturday evening when Ladbrokes St Leger winner Harbour Law is set to be named the Racing Post-sponsored Horse Of The Year at the Epsom owners' and trainers' awards dinner.
The Classic hero, trained by Laura Mongan and owned by Jackie Cornwell, is the warmest of orders to land the main prize, although there is plenty of competition for the judging panel to mull over in the other categories at the 18th staging of the awards night.
The black tie event, organised by Racing Welfare, will raise money for Epsom’s racing staff, and some 250 guests will celebrate the racing centre’s fine year, in which Mongan became the first woman to train a St Leger winner.
Mary-Ann Sandercock, Racing Welfare's corporate fundraising and events manager, said: “It promises to be another enjoyable and fun night and we’re delighted with the expected turnout. It’s always a great event which highlights the many success stories in Epsom, and Harbour Law’s Classic win, along with more than 70 winners being sent out from Epsom yards this season, is a fine reason to celebrate.”
Other categories include best juvenile, best all-weather performer and the Sir David Prosser trainers' award, while the event's headline sponsor is JF Daughter Ltd, a vintage pawnbrokers on Epsom High Street.
