Group races aplenty with Saturday highlights at Newbury and Ripon

Monday

A busy week of racing gets off to a low-key start with afternoon meetings at Ayr and Wolverhampton. Evening meetings at Ripon and Windsor complete the day’s racing in Britain.

Over in Ireland, there is jumps racing at Ballinrobe with an eight-race card starting at 4.45.

Tuesday

Champion jockey Oisin Murphy will look to build on his hefty lead in the British Flat jockeys’ championship at Lingfield’s evening meeting after an incredible 16 winners last week.

The other evening meeting comes from Chelmsford with Nottingham and Wolverhampton offering Midlands racegoers plenty of choice in the afternoon.

Wednesday

Salisbury’s two-day meeting gets underway in style with the Listed Upavon Fillies’ Stakes (4.15) headlining the six-race card. Other afternoon meetings come from Beverley and Yarmouth.

There is more Listed action to look forward to in the evening with the Hurry Harriet Stakes (5.35) at Gowran Park. Dermot Weld has won the race four times since its inception in 2007 and looks to hold a strong hand again with three entries, Amma Grace, Alazenya and Emaniya. Ffos Las and Kempton complete the evening line-up.

Thursday

The Group 3 Desmond Stakes (6.30) is the highlight of a stellar card at Leopardstown, with runaway Sandringham winner Create Belief expected to have a first tilt at Group level after being raised 13lb in the handicap for that impressive Royal Ascot success. The Listed Vinnie Roe Stakes (7.30) rounds off the strong seven-race evening fixture.

There is also Group 3 action at Salisbury with the Sovereign Stakes (4.05) featuring a number of likeable types such as Brunch, Sir Busker, Century Dream and Mums Tipple in the entries. Glorious Goodwood scorer Maydanny and Godolphin’s progressive Hunt Cup winner Real World are also among the possibles.

Other afternoon meetings come from Beverley and Ffos Las before the Racing League continues with the third instalment coming from Lingfield. Chelmsford also hosts an evening fixture.

Over in Ireland, Tramore’s August festival begins with a seven-race card.

Friday

Aidan O’Brien aims to win the Group 3 Irish St Leger Trial Stakes (7.00) at the Curragh for the eighth year running. The other Group 3 action on the evening card comes in the form of the Royal Whip Stakes (6.00).

The Listed St Hugh’s Stakes (3.20) headlines Newbury’s seven-race card with Amo Racing holding three entries with Super Sprint runner-up Symphony Perfect along with the unbeaten pair of Thunder Love and Fearless Angel.

Other afternoon meetings come from Nottingham and Wolverhampton before Newmarket, Thirsk and Tramore complete a busy day in the evening.

Saturday

Newbury has a mouth-watering card with almost £300,000 of prize-money up for grabs, headlined by the £100,000 Group 2 Hungerford Stakes (3.30). The feature race of the meeting is preceded by Group 3 Geoffrey Freer Stakes (2.20) and the Listed Denford Stakes (1.45)

There is also valuable prize-money on offer at Ripon, with the £75,000 Great St Wilfrid headlining the afternoon meeting.

Newmarket stages its traditional grey horse handicap as part of a seven-race card as Doncaster completes the afternoon Flat offerings, with jump racing returning in Britain at Perth following a short break.

Evening meetings at Market Rasen, Bath and Tramore complete the schedule.

Sunday

Group 1 action comes from France as Deauville stages the Prix Jacques Le Marois, a race in which Palace Pier secured a second win at Group 1 level in last year's renewal. Sunday's Larc Prix Maurice de Gheest scorer Marianafoot could bid to make it two Group 1 wins in the space of of a week at the track for Jerome Reynier.
