Group 1 winner Verbal Dexterity back in action in Royal Whip Stakes
Manguard Plus Royal Whip Stakes (Group 3) | 3yo+ | 1m2f | ATR
Verbal Dexterity, a Group 1 winner last season and regarded as a genuine Classic contender this season, makes a belated reappearance in this Group 3 event.
The Jim Bolger-trained colt, who landed the National Stakes at the Curragh in September, has not run since finishing fourth in the Racing Post Trophy a month later.
He faces seven rivals including the much-travelled Deauville, who was beaten four lengths when sixth in the Arlington Million two weeks ago.
It was in this race 24 years ago that Deauville's trainer Aidan O'Brien achieved his first Group-race success when Dancing Sunset was awarded the race in the stewards' room on the disqualification of the Bolger-trained Blue Judge.
O'Brien, who is also represented by Broadway, said: "Deauville didn't have a good draw at Arlington and ran well in the circumstances. He seems to have taken the race well and is in good form.
"Broadway seems well and if there is ease in the ground, she'll handle it."
Success Days, who led the Prix Jacques le Marois field for six furlongs at Deauville two weeks ago, has performed well at the Curragh many times and won this contest two years ago. He is another who appreciates ease in the ground.
His trainer Ken Condon said: "He's been very well since Deauville and if they get the rain that's expected, it'll be very welcome. If there's a good ease, I'd give him a decent chance."
Ming, who finished sixth in the Secretariat Stakes at Arlington on his most recent start, and Reckless Gold represent Joseph O'Brien.
