Gordon Elliott and Davy Russell notched a notable success on Saturday as Markhan struck for the Grand National-winning pair at Percy Warner Park in Nashville.

The six-year-old, who was last seen winning on the Flat at Dundalk in March, made a successful return to hurdles in the 2m2f George Sloan and John Sloan Sr.

The winner came four and a half lengths clear of Snap Decision, with Archanova in third.

Jack Doyle finished fifth aboard Snuggling, while Tom Garner was sixth on the Richard Valentine-trained Demonstration.

Elliott and Russell were out of luck earlier on in the card in the Marcellus Frost Champion Hurdle, as Chief Justice, who was last seen winning at Aintree, could only manage fourth behind City Dreamer. The ex-Harry Fry-trained Winston C was in third.

Previously owned by Cheveley Park Stud, Chief Justice will continue his career in America having been bought by Irvin Naylor.

As well as the Champion Hurdle, the feature Grade 1 Calvin Houghland Iroquois was won by trainer Jack Fisher and jockey Sean McDermott with Scorpiancer.

Fisher also ran Moscato (third), Jaleo (fifth) and Gibralfaro (sixth), who were all previously trained in Britain.

Garner finished fourth aboard the Jonathan Sheppard-trained All The Way Jose.
