Grand National hero One For Arthur set to head back to Warwick

The 2017 Grand National winner One For Arthur is set to retrace his steps on his way back to Aintree after his seasonal reappearance this month ended prematurely.

Trainer Lucinda Russell pointed the way to the Classic Chase at Warwick on January 12, a race he won before going on to Aintree glory on his next start.

But after One For Arthur unseated Tom Scudamore at the third in the Many Clouds Chase at Aintree on December 8, plans have been redrawn for the chaser, who turns ten on Tuesday.

"He's probably going to need two runs before Aintree," said Russell on Thursday. "We could have done with him jumping round at Aintree.

"It was a bit of a shame and not the perfect start back, but he's fine and on course to go to Warwick for the Classic Chase, which he won before the National. Then he'll probably go somewhere else."

One For Arthur could be reunited with his Grand National-winning jockey Derek Fox at Warwick. Fox returned to action at Wetherby on Wednesday, having been out since November after undergoing a back operation.

One For Arthur missed the whole of last season with a tendon injury having been ante-post favourite to repeat his 2017 win achieved at the chief expense of Cause Of Causes and Saint Are.
