Grand National festival tips: Thursday's best bets from Racing Post experts
Day one of the Grand National festival at Aintree is here – but who do our top tipsters fancy most?
Law Ella
By Tom Segal
Race: Goffs UK Nickel Coin Mares' Standard Open National Hunt Flat Race (5.15 Aintree)
Odds: 9-1
Gavin Cromwell seems to have winners at all the big meetings and he saddles Law Ella, who looked a mare going places when hacking up at Down Royal on her sole start last month. She won very easily in a good time and was really strong at the finish. Cromwell has booked Aidan Coleman and I would be shocked if Law Ella isn't really competitive.
Millers Bank
By Robbie Wilders
Race: SSS Super Alloys Manifesto Novices' Chase (1.45 Aintree)
Odds: 15-2
Millers Bank unseated Harry Bannister a couple of times in the winter after a stylish chasing debut, but bounced back when second to the reopposing Pic D'Orhy in the Pendil. He jumped better there, it was his first completed run since October and first after wind surgery, so I would expect a better display returned to the scene of his best run.
Jett
By Paul Kealy
Race: Randox Foxhunters' Chase (4.05 Aintree)
Odds: 3-1
I think the favourite Jett only has to get round to win and 3-1 is not a bad price at all. This race does not feature a stack of unexposed horses from the point field and on all known form Jett is way better than most of these ever have been or will ever be. Even at the age of 11 he ran to a Racing Post Rating of 152 when a close third to Two For Gold at Doncaster in December and he will have been primed for this race all season.
