Grade 1-winning rider accused of sexual assault at a weekend event in Ireland
A well-known jump jockey has been accused of sexual assault following an incident at a popular social event in the early hours of Sunday morning.
No arrest has been made but Garda sources have confirmed that a serious allegation was made against the rider, who has won Grade 1 races, and that the matter is being investigated.
The person making the allegation is understood to have been known to the accused, who is one of the more established names in the weighing room. The rider has yet to be formally interviewed and is believed to be strenuously denying the allegation.
In a statement, the Garda press office said: "Gardaí are investigating a report of an alleged sexual assault on a female that is reported to have occurred on Sunday, 21st July 2019. Investigations are ongoing."
