Gosden follows tried-and-trusted Derby route with Dante pair Baton and Lion
John Gosden, whose Derby winners Benny The Dip and Golden Horn graduated to Epsom after landing York's Dante Stakes, will have two runners in Thursday's Betfred-backed contest after declaring Crossed Baton and Roaring Lion.
The mount of Frankie Dettori, Crossed Baton has already won a Derby dress rehearsal having claimed Epsom's trial three weeks ago, while Roaring Lion, who will be ridden by Oisin Murphy, heads to York having finished a solid fifth in the 2,000 Guineas this month.
They face seven rivals, including James Cook and Zabriskie from the stable of Aidan O'Brien, a four-time Dante winner.
Wells Farhh Go is a big runner for Tim Easterby, while Mildenberger, Nordic Lights, White Mocha and Merlin Magic complete the field.
The Dante is regarded as one of Britain's main Derby trials and Golden Horn, Authorized, Motivator and North Light have won both races this century, while Workforce was beaten at York but bounced back to score at Epsom in 2010.
York also races on Wednesday and Friday and the going was described as good to firm, good in places on Tuesday morning, when temperatures were forecast to reach 21C later in the day.
It is expected to remain dry on Wednesday, when temperatures are set to be cooler around 13C.
