Goodwood turns good to soft but further going change expected
The ground at Goodwood has quickened to good to soft for Saturday's ITV card but clerk of the course Ed Arkell suggests a further change could be likely with a warm and sunny day forecast.
The going at Goodwood on Friday night, for the first of three days racing, was soft, good to soft in places but a dry night has made the description change in West Sussex.
For racing, which starts at 1.15, the ground could be changed again due to the forecast with temperatures predicted to reach as high as 22C.
Arkell said: "It's dried back really nicely and taken the rain well. It's good to soft this morning, we're 6.8 on the GoingStick and we're forecast for a dry, sunny and warmish day so I should think it'll dry back a little bit more during the day."
Saturday's highlight is the Group 2 William Hill Celebration Mile Stakes (3.35), where Mutasaabeq remains steady at the top of the betting at 5-4. Jadoomi and Escobar are his biggest threats according to the bookmakers.
The going is now good all over at Beverley for its biggest day of the season, with the William Hill Beverley Bullet Sprint Stakes taking centre stage at 2.40.
A dry night has led to the change in conditions from good, good to soft in places and clerk of the course John Morley said: "We've changed it to good all over and it'll be nice ground for racing. It'll be mainly sunny, we're forecast highs of 21C."
A good crowd is expected to witness the Yorkshire track's signature race. Defending champion Tis Marvellous heads the betting at no bigger than 3-1.
"I'm really looking forward to it," added Morley. "We love the Bullet and seeing these really nice sprinters is the big highlight of the year for us. It should be a good crowd and hopefully another decent one tomorrow for the family day."
