Going updates and punting pointers for a quality card at Newmarket
With a pair of Group 2s, a Group 3 and a couple of Listed races, there is plenty of quality on offer at Newmarket. Throw into the mix a maiden, in which the top yards are represented, plus a competitive handicap for those who failed to make the cut for the Cambridgeshire, and this is a card which has something for everyone.
Mark Johnston landed the highlight on Thursday with the regally bred Elarqam, and the trainer is responsible for one of the leading hopes in the Rockfel Stakes (3.00) in the shape of Nyaleti.
The Rockfel shares star billing with the Joel Stakes (3.35), in which South African superstar Whisky Baron is a fascinating runner on his first start in Britain.
