Going update: more rain than expected overnight but dry day forecast
Goodwood is set to open with ground on the easy side of good but is likely to quicken with no rain forecast for the entire meeting.
More rain fell overnight than was expected with the going now described as good, good to soft in places on the straight (from good, good to firm in places on the round course).
Clerk of the course Ed Arkell said on Tuesday: "We were expecting a light shower, maybe a millimetre or two, but we weren't expecting just shy of five millimetres.
"The forecast is for a warm, sunny day and it's set to stay that way for the week."
There was also rain at Galway, with the going eased to good to yielding (from good) on the jumps track, while the Flat course is now yielding to soft (from yielding).
That was after five millimetres of rain on Tuesday morning, with a further six to eight millimetres forecast for the morning, before clearing for a dry and breezy afternoon.
