Barry Geraghty, who was returning from a punctured lung and six broken ribs after a fall from Charli Parcs at Kempton shortly before the Cheltenham Festival, won on his third ride back on Close Shave at Fairyhouse on Sunday.

The jockey, who finished second on Outspoken earlier in the day before unseating on Any Second Now in the following Grade 2, guided the six-year-old to victory in the novice handicap hurdle for Gold Cup-winning trainer Jessica Harrington and retained owner JP McManus.

The win would have given Geraghty a timely confidence boost before he is due to partner an array of stars at Aintree next week. The rider has Buveur D'Air, Defi Du Seuil and Uxizandre to look forward to, alongside 2014 Stayers' Hurdle winner More Of That in the Randox Health Grand National, a race he won on Monty's Pass in 2003.
