Gavin Sheehan 'definitely appealing' against 14-day Newbury non-trier ban
Gavin Sheehan expressed his frustration on Thursday and confirmed he will appeal against the decision of the stewards at Newbury the previous day to suspend him for 14 days following his ride on 250-1 shot Beaufort in the 2m½f maiden hurdle.
Beaufort's trainer Warren Greatrex branded the ruling "ridiculous" on Wednesday after stewards deemed the horse to have been schooled in public when finishing 13th of the 16 runners, 76 lengths behind the impressive Lecale's Article.
As well as Sheehan's lengthy ban, which rules him out from December 30 until January 12, Greatrex was fined £3,000 and Beaufort banned from running for 40 days. Greatrex also confirmed his intention to appeal against the decision.
