Gavin Cromwell hoping Princess Yaiza will have her Filly & Mare chance
It is set to be an anxious 24 hours or so for Gavin Cromwell and the connections of Princess Yaiza, with the improving three-year-old not guaranteed a run in the Group 1 Breeders' Cup Filly & Mare Turf at Churchill Downs on Saturday week.
What is guaranteed is that Princess Yaiza, impressive winner of the Group 2 Prix de Royallieu on Arc weekend at Longchamp, will sign off with Cromwell at the Breeders’ Cup, with the Marathon on the Friday a possible back-up should she not get into the preferred race.
Cromwell, who has never had a runner in the US, explained on Monday: “Entries closed today and we’ll know tomorrow evening whether we get a run in the Filly & Mare Turf, otherwise we’ll go for the Marathon.
