Speculation is mounting that the government will announce a review of the controversial gaming machines found in betting shops, also called FOBTs, in the next few days.

The long-awaited news of the triennial review of gaming machine stakes and prizes could come as soon as Monday.

The latest edition of the BBC's flagship current affairs programme Panorama is due to examine the issue of betting shops and gaming machines on Monday evening and there are suggestions that the government is keen to be seen to be taking a proactive, rather than reactive, stance.
