Galway Plate hero Clarcam spearheads Gordon Elliott raid on Saratoga

Gordon Elliott is two-handed as he bids to make a successful transatlantic raid in the Grade 1 New York Turf Writers Cup Handicap Hurdle at Saratoga on Thursday.
Elliott, who combined with champion jockey Richard Johnson to land five of the seven races at Perth last Saturday, sends Clarcam, the mount of Davy Russell, and The Game Changer, who will be partnered by Mark Enright, to the New York track.
Clarcam has changed ownership since landing the valuable Galway Plate by six lengths under Enright at the beginning of the month, and now races for a syndicate comprising Rosbrian Farm, Benjamin H Griswold IV, and Wendy Griswold.
The Game Changer has also been bought by Rosbrian Farm since unseating his rider in a Galway handicap chase this month.
Elliott said: "Clarcam travelled over well and seems in good form. The Game Changer didn't take the trip as well and got a bit light, but he's here now and will take his chance."
Both horses will be having their last races for Elliott, and will remain in the US.
Winner of a Grade 2 chase at Navan last November, Clarcam also fared well over Aintree’s Grand National fences when sixth to Ultragold in the Topham Handicap Chase in April, and could prove the biggest threat to the home-trained contingent, which include the Jonathan E Sheppard-trained four-year-old Iranistan and recent Grade 1 scorer Show Court.
The former Dan Skelton-trained Optimus Prime, runner-up to Footpad in the Grade 1 Ryanair Novice Chase at Punchestown in April, and another who races in the colours of Rosbrian Farm, is also in the nine-runner line-up.
