Galopin Des Champs could reappear on Sunday following cruel Cheltenham exit
Unlucky Cheltenham Festival faller Galopin Des Champs could bid for Grade 1 compensation at Fairyhouse on Sunday after featuring among 13 possible runners for the BoyleSports Gold Cup Novice Chase (4.55).
It had been suggested in the immediate aftermath of his dramatic final-fence exit in the Turners Novices' Chase that the Grade 1 Dooley Insurance Group Champion Novice Chase at Punchestown might be the next port of call for Galopin Des Champs.
However, the brilliant Willie Mullins-trained novice still has the option of taking in Sunday's €100,000 prize, which could feature top-level scorers Master McShee, Beacon Edge and Fury Road.
High-class mare Riviere D'Etel and Arkle runner-up Gabynako are also possibles, while Mullins has the option of calling on Blue Sari, Haut En Couleurs, Saint Sam and Shadow Rider.
Faugheen Novice Chase winner Master McShee, who chased home Galopin Des Champs at the Dublin Racing Festival, will face a key workout on Thursday to determine his participation in the race won by dual Gold Cup hero Al Boum Photo in 2018.
BoyleSports Gold Cup Novice Chase: entries and racecard
Trainer Paddy Corkery said: "We were delighted with his last run at Navan when second [in the Grade 2 Webster Cup Chase]. He only really got going from the back of the last and stayed on well while giving weight away. All things considered, it was a very good run.
"I don't know whether he'll go to Fairyhouse. We'll have to see how he gets on when he works on Thursday. I'm hoping he pleases me then and we'll make a call after that."
Gavin Cromwell's decision to supplement Gabynako for the Arkle at a cost of £8,000 reaped dividends when the seven-year-old finished second to Edwardstone. However, the trainer has yet to commit to Saturday's contest.
"He's not a definite runner yet but he's in good nick," he said. "We have the option of going to Punchestown for the Grade 1 novice chase over two miles. We were delighted with his run in the Arkle."
Cromwell also had news of Alfa Mix, who is priced between 33-1 and 50-1 for the BoyleSports Irish Grand National. "He could head to Fairyhouse and is in good form. Hopefully the longer trip might help him in terms of his jumping," he said.
Ryanair Mares' Novices' Hurdle winner Love Envoi is on course for Sunday's Grade 1 Irish Stallion Farms EBF Mares Novice Hurdle Championship Final, in which she could meet Brandy Love, one of 13 Mullins entries, and the Gordon Elliott-trained Party Central.
Fairyhouse general manager Peter Roe said: "It's very exciting to see entries like these for the Grade 1s on Sunday. There are three other Grade 1 winners in the BoyleSports Gold Cup who you can't forget about, but we'd all love to have Galopin Des Champs here."
