Friday's Classic insight, including a Guineas entry at Newcastle and key movers
The 2022 Flat season is picking up pace and it's full steam ahead to the first of the Classics – the Qipco 2,000 Guineas and 1,000 Guineas at Newmarket – on April 30 and May 1 respectively.
Market movers come thick and fast as the key Classic trials are run in Britain and Ireland, but big-race contenders can come from anywhere and it's easy to miss a potential dark horse. Our Classic Clues series, which runs every morning, has you covered.
Here's a recap of Thursday's action and how it has affected the Classic betting, while we mark your card with key names to note on Friday.
Racing round-up: Eydon emerges as Classic contender
The bet365 Feilden Stakes threw up a Classic dark horse in Eydon, who was cut to 20-1 (from 66s) for both the 2,000 Guineas and Cazoo Derby.
Without a win in two starts as a juvenile, the three-year-old took a huge leap forward on the Rowley Mile to beat 2-1 favourite Masekela.
Eydon is a towering horse with a low, genuine head carriage meaning there should be more improvement to come. He has a stout pedigree by Olden Times and is out of a Frankel mare, so longer distances should be well within his compass.
Out From Under broke his maiden in commanding style in the opening 7f stakes, a time which compared favourably with the conditions stakes over the same trip.
Hot favourite Audience was no match for Tuscan, who, unlike his rival came into the race with plenty of experience, and both shaped like horses with plenty more to offer.

What they said
Roger Varian, trainer of Eydon
We thought he'd run very well. His first run was a lovely run and the second was probably trainer error as we probably ran him when he wasn't quite on song. The last six weeks he's done really well and he did a lovely piece of work on the turf five days ago to suggest we weren't tilting at windmills here. He's got a great temperament; if you saw him in the prelims he just ambled around; he's a cool customer. I was worried early on with the slow pace as we were towards the rear, but I loved how he moved into it and there's a lot to look forward to.
All eyes on . . . Newcastle
While high-profile trials at Newbury on Saturday draw near, lessons could be learned at Newcastle's all-weather finals fixture on Friday.
Native Trail boosted his Guineas credentials in the Craven on Wednesday and the form of his two market rivals, stablemate Coroebus and the Aidan O'Brien-trained Luxembourg, will be tested.
Imperial Fighter was second to Coroebus in the Group 3 Autumn Stakes and fifth to Luxembourg in the Vertem Futurity and he could boost or weaken the form, depending on how he runs in the opening Listed Burradon Stakes (1.30).
He still has an entry in the 2,000 Guineas and Irish 2,000 Guineas and could improve again under all-weather champion jockey David Probert.
In the 6f conditions stakes (3.10) the speedier colts could give an indication as to how strong this year's three-year-old crop is. Every horse in the race has won at least twice, so several bubbles will be burst.
Any early market moves for the Greenham Stakes (3.00) and Fred Darling (2.25) should be noted.
