For the first time this week watering will take place at Goodwood in advance of Friday's fixture.

The Glorious meeting started on ground described as good, good to soft in places on Tuesday, but following a scorching day on Thursday conditions had dried out to good, good to firm in places.

Clerk of course Ed Arkell, overseeing his first Glorious Goodwood, said: "We'll be putting 8mm of water on the top and bottom bends and the same amount on the round course from the bottom bend to the ten-furlong start.

"This is to stop those areas getting any quicker and make sure the bends are safe. The ground has quickened up today.

"We're also taking down the temporary railing on the top and bottom bends, which lead into the straight, to provide fresh ground on the inner."
