Marie Jepps: to become an owner for the day with Frankie Dettori in the saddle

A lucky racing fan will get to call upon the services of Frankie Dettori after winning an ownership experience for the day in a raffle set up to raise funds for the NHS.

Not only will Marie Jepps from Bedfordshire have her favourite jockey ride for her in a race next year, but he will do so in her colours.

Jepps, who won a range of other prizes including a tour of the Jockey Club training grounds and gallops in Newmarket, said: "Oh gosh, we absolutely love Frankie! He's my favourite jockey and I cannot believe I've won such a fantastic prize. I'm shocked."

Considering the silks she will opt for, Jepps said: "We've been thinking about red, white and blue. They're the colours of our national flag and blue is my favourite colour. I absolutely love diamonds, so if we can have a diamond pattern on the silks I would be very happy."

The Racehorse Lotto's Frankie Dettori NHS Raffle, which was supported by Racing Breaks, has raised more than £10,000 for the NHS Charities Together Covid-19 Appeal.

Dettori said: "I'm delighted for Marie. She seems very excited about the prospect of having me ride a horse for her and now the pressure is on me to try to win the race!"

Parker said: "I'm delighted to be joining the board of the BHA on behalf of the Horsemen's Group.

"We face huge challenges across our industry which must be tackled together if we are to ensure the sport we all love can recover from the current crisis and grow into a more robust model in the future."

Parker is also expected to take over as chairman of the Horsemen's Group when Philip Freedman steps down at the end of June.

Lee sanction gets big increase following Egan intervention

Billy Lee's suspension for careless riding in an incident that saw two horses and riders fall at Roscommon on June 15 has been increased by 150 per cent to five days after Denis Egan requested that it be reviewed.

In his guise as Keeper of the Match Book, the Irish Horseracing Regulatory Board chief executive exercised his power to appeal the leniency of what was initially a two-day sanction. A referrals committee duly convened at the Curragh on Friday, and following the review, Lee was handed a five-day ban for his ride on Strongbowe.

In winning the 7f maiden, Lee's Paddy Twomey-trained mount drifted right towards the inside rail as he made his way to the front over a furlong out. As he did so, he cut across Mudlahhim, who clipped heels and fell under Scott McCullagh, in the process bringing down the Donagh O'Connor-ridden Silk Air.
