'Frankie can ride until he's 55' - Dettori's age just a number says Ray Cochrane

Sunday's 1,000 Guineas may have been Frankie Dettori's first Classic as a fifty-something but it almost certainly will not be his last according to long-time ally Ray Cochrane, who is adamant the world's most famous jockey has at least another five years riding at the top.

Mother Earth's win was the 20th Classic win of Dettori's career and came 24 hours after Kevin Manning landed the 2,000 Guineas aged 54 for 79-year-old trainer Jim Bolger, which led Cochrane to joke that Dettori was "the youngest Classic-winning jockey this weekend by a considerable margin!"

Dettori's Classic success was his first since Cochrane retired as his agent, but his long-time friend, who saved Dettori's life when the pair were in a plane crash in 2000, said: "The lad's in good form and had a good winter over in Dubai. He's kept himself fit and is riding as well as ever.
