Former Jockey Club handicapper Martyn Stewart has died following a short illness. He was 66.

Stewart handicapped the hurdlers with Tony Winlaw in the 1980s before being head-hunted to take a new role as senior handicapper and race programmer in Hong Kong. He was in Hong Kong for around ten years and went on to hold a similar position in Kuala Lumpur for another eight before retiring to Norfolk.

Christopher Mordaunt, who was the senior jumps handicapper and did the chasers at the time, remembers Stewart as “a very good chap, and a very good handicapper”.
