Former champion lady amateur quits the saddle to pursue clerking opportunity

Carol Bartley, who "only wanted to ride until I'd ridden a winner" but ended up a three-time champion, has quit the saddle at the age of 49.

She is training to become clerk of the course at Hamilton and has called time on a career that stretches back nearly three decades.

"Nobody wants to stop riding, especially when they're still fit and able to do it, but you have to look at the bigger picture," said Bartley, who was champion lady amateur rider on the Flat three times.
