O'Meara racing calendar for cancer charity
Stable staff at David O'Meara's yard have bared nearly all for a "cheeky" racing calendar created to boost funds for Macmillan Cancer Support.
Yard manager Natasha Nelson came up with the idea to aid her fundraising efforts for charity race Ride of their Lives at York on September 24, for which she is one of 12 amateur jockeys set to compete.
"It's a fun and cheeky calendar and we've got a few well-known horses in there, like Lord Glitters," she said. "I can't thank everyone at the yard enough, as well as local sponsors who have been really supportive.
"I've managed to raise just over £4,000 for the charity race so far and hopefully the calendars will sell well and provide further funds. I've seen first hand how Macmillan provides support to people with cancer and their families and it's a really worthy cause."
The calendars cost £10 and orders can be made by emailing natashacharitycalendar@hotmail.com.
Historic Gold Cup-winning colours up for auction on Tuesday
A historic set of colours that have not been in regular use since the Second World War will be up for grabs at an auction selling the rights to six exclusive sets of silks on Tuesday.
The plain 'Sea Green' colours of former racehorse breeder and accomplished polo player Mr John Reid-Walker were carried to victory in the 1928 and 29 runnings of the Ascot Gold Cup by Invershin.
They will feature as lot 75 at Graham Budd Auctions on September 7 and are estimated to be worth between £50,000 and £60,000.
Following the Second World War, the colours were not seen on a racecourse again until 2010 when Van Ness won the Queen Mother Memorial Hunters' Chase at Sandown.
The silver silks of Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed Al Maktoum, carried by star miler Palace Pier, were another notable set of plain colours to go through the auction. They were sold for £120,000, while the distinctive 'dartboard' silks carried by the likes of useful handicappers Escobar and Gulliver went through the ring in 2017.

Classy miler Top Rank sold to race in Australia
Lockinge Stakes third Top Rank has been sold by his previous connections to continue his career in Australia, trainer James Tate has confirmed.
The five-year-old, who raced in the colours of Saeed Manana, also won the Doncaster Mile earlier in the season as well as landing a Group 3 at Haydock last year, and finished his British career when fourth in the Summer Mile at Ascot in July.
He is set to be trained down under by Annabel Neasham, who has notably turned the former Sir Michael Stoute-trained Zaaki into a Group 1-winning star and is the early market leader for the Cox Plate.
Tate said: "He's in quarantine to go to Australia as he's been sold to race there. Money talks and he's a five-year-old, so it makes sense for my client to take the money.
"He's a really good horse and he'll have some great opportunities to pick up a lot of prize-money there. We wish him well for his new owners."
Midlands National Handicap Chase raised to Grade B
