Fifth Group 1 of 2016 helps Minding stretch lead in Horse of the Year standings

Minding: one of the most exciting horses in training
Minding won a seventh career Group 1 at Ascot on Saturday

Minding's fifth Group 1 victory of the year in Saturday's Queen Elizabeth II Stakes means she takes a commanding lead into the two voting rounds of the Cartier Horse of the Year awards, with the three-year-old 60 points clear of her year-older Arc-winning stablemate Found.

The 236 points Minding has earned in Pattern races count for 30 per cent of the overall score, with the votes of readers of the Racing Post, Daily Telegraph and viewers of Channel 4 weighted at 35 per cent along with the opinions of a panel of racing journalists.

The three-year-old filly and older horse category leaders face competition from top three-year-old colts for the overall prize, headed by impressive Champion Stakes scorer Almanzor (154).
