Fielding 'really excited' ahead of Clock Tower Cup ride for Dascombe

Tom Dascombe: trains Chosen Character, who will be ridden by Poppy Fielding in the Clock Tower Cup

The third running of the Betfair Clock Tower Cup takes place at Doncaster on Friday (1.25) with 12 members of stable staff donning silks in the saddle for their boss in the 7f race.

Poppy Fielding, who hopes to take out an apprentice licence later in the year, celebrated success in a pony race at Haydock in 2015 and takes her first charity race mount aboard the Tom Dascombe-trained Chosen Character.

Fielding, 18, said: "I'm really excited and can't wait to get out there. I ride Chosen Character occasionally at home - he's feeling well so hopefully he'll have a good chance.

"I'm going to jump out and bowl along, which he likes, and hopefully they won't be able to catch us."

Mark Simms, rider of Baron Run, and Elise Kemp, who will partner Fidelma Moon, both work for Karl Burke and bragging rights in the yard are very much up for grabs.

Simms, 22, travelling head lad, said: "I’m a bit nervous – Baron Run is known as the runaway train at home so I hope he’ll be alright on the racecourse."

Kemp, 20, added: "Mark will get really nervous just before the race,  but we're both extremely competitive. I'm really looking forward to it."

The charity raceday, which includes a lunch with an auction offering hospitality at Glorious Goodwood, Ascot and Manchester United among other lots, raised £34,000 for Racing Welfare in 2016 and with an increased amount of volunteers collecting money on course this year, it is hoped a greater amount will be accrued across the day on Town Moor.

Racegoers can enter a draw to win an original piece of Birdie artwork or purchase a limited edition Birdie print t-shirt in the exhibition hall, where Racing Welfare will be set up for the day, while the racecourse is running a prize draw for stable staff to win a luxury hamper.
