Like a title fight won by the referee, like the Wars of the Roses won by a daffodil, the Nunthorpe Stakes did not follow either Plan A for Aurelia or Plan B for Battaash, but instead took the course of something not planned but simply dreamed of. Dial M for Marsha and you get a party line; let the party start.
You had to go quite a long way to find anyone who thought the big sprint would be won by something other than Lady Aurelia or Battaash.
The knavesmire was practically partisan, basically binary, but if it was that simple they wouldn't bother to go down to the start and come back, and the little guy wouldn't entertain dreams in the small hours of the night about having his hour, one far hour fierce and sweet.
