David Griffiths has unfinished business on his mind. In each of the last two years the trainer has approached the Ebor festival with sky-high confidence, only to be brought back down to earth with a bump.

Having primed stable star Take Cover for the Coolmore Nunthorpe Stakes, the 42-year-old watched on as any chance of success unravelled before the contest had even begun.

In 2014 the sprinter’s prospects were compromised when he banged his head in the stalls before running a courageous race to finish two lengths adrift of winner Sole Power in eighth. That was nothing compared to last year’s disaster.
