Royal Ascot: confirmed runners and riders for Duke of Cambridge and Queen's Vase
Sir Michael Stoute has declared Duke of Cambridge ante-post favourite Rawdaa for the fillies' Group 2 on Wednesday, with the Middleton Stakes runner-up set to face 16 rivals.
Stoute has won the race twice in the last nine years with Integral (2015) and Strawberrydaiquiri (2010), with Ryan Moore in the saddle on both occasions. However, the prolific Ascot trainer has turned to Frankie Dettori to ride Rawdaa, with jockeys' championship leader Oisin Murphy partnering Veracious, Stoute's other runner in the race.
Wednesday's Royal Ascot fields
Aidan O'Brien has yet to win the Duke of Cambridge Stakes and saddles I Can Fly, who finished a fine second in last season's QEII but has produced some mixed performances this term.
The two forfeits for the race were Victory Wave and Awesometank, although William Haggas is still represented by Pretty Baby and Move Swiftly. Last year's Sandringham winner Agrotera is also in the mix for Ed Walker.
O'Brien is strongly represented in the Group 2 Queen's Vase, a race he won last year with subsequent St Leger winner Kew Gardens. The Ballydoyle trainer runs four, headed by Western Australia and Derby also-ran Norway, while Barbados and Harpo Marx complete his team.
Mark Johnston also has a superb record in the race with his three wins in the last decade only bettered by O'Brien's five. The Middleham trainer is represented this year by Nayef Road and Themaxwecan.
The Charlie Appleby-trained pair of Jalmoud and Moonlight Spirit are in the line-up, while Dashing Willoughby and Eminent Authority are others in the 13-strong field.
The opening race on day two of Royal Ascot, the Queen Mary Stakes, has attracted 28 runners, including a strong squad of runners from Godolphin headed by Final Song. The unbeaten Divine Spirit, Ickworth and Theory Of Time complete their strong challenge, with James Doyle riding the latter.
Ickworth's participation depends on how much rain hits Ascot on Tuesday according to trainer Willie McCreery. He said: "I wouldn't be keen to run her if the ground turned soft.
"There is rain forecast through Tuesday to Wednesday but it's coming in thunder showers so hopefully it might not totally get into it. Fingers crossed she'll be able to take her chance."
US trainer Wesley Ward suffered a blow when Lady Pauline was ruled out of the royal meeting, but he is still represented by Kimari and Anna's Fast as he seeks a fourth win in the juvenile contest.
John Gosden can breathe a sigh of relief as Stylehunter filled the final spot in a full 30-runner field for the Royal Hunt Cup, with War Glory, Exec Chef and Plutonian filling the three reserve positions.
Ante-post favourite New Graduate has been drawn in stall one with Dettori riding, while last year's winner Settle For Bay is in stall seven.
The Windsor Castle Stakes has attracted 24 runners, including Temple Of Heaven, Summer Sands and Ward's raiders Karak and Foolish Humor.
