Bookies running scared of Dettori after taking 'abnormal' number of multiples
Frankie Dettori's scintillating 449-1 four-timer has resulted in a wave of support for his mounts on Friday afternoon, including the Martyn Meade-trained Advertise in the Commonwealth Cup.
Punters are hoping the 48-year-old can repeat the magic which sent shockwaves through the betting industry on Thursday, and plenty are combining his five mounts in multiples.
Betfair's Barry Orr said: "We are seeing an abnormal amount of multiple bets on Frankie’s rides with punters all jumping on the Dettori money train."
Dettori's five rides on Friday
2.30 Last Surprise (6-1)
3.05 Private Secretary (5-1)
3.40 Advertise (7-1)
4.20 Twist 'N' Shake (12-1)
5.35 Ben Vrackie (7-1)
Paddy Power spokesman Paul Binfield also reported support for Dettori and said: "We have seen quite a bit of money on Frankie Dettori's mounts. In the Albany, Last Surprise is 7-1 from 8s, while Advertise in the Commonwealth Cup is 7-1 from 8s. He was 9-1 on Thursday."
He added: "In the Coronation Stakes Twist 'N' Shake is 12s from 20-1. Punters are latching on to the Dettori and John Gosden factor."
A flying start for Frankie in the opening Albany Stakes would be an especially bad result for bookmakers, according to Betway’s Alan Alger: "Frankie fever is ripping through Royal Ascot and the Italian maestro is being backed for more success on the final two days. We’re already fearing a number of his rides today, notably Last Surprise in the opening Albany Stakes."
