Coventry Stakes favourite Albert Einstein will miss Royal Ascot after Coolmore announced he has suffered a setback.

The Wootton Bassett colt was as short as 6-4 with bookmakers for the Group 2 contest but will now have three weeks of reduced work after spraining a joint in the build-up to the royal meeting.

Albert Einstein is unbeaten in two starts, the latest of which saw him overcome trouble in running to see off Power Blue by three-quarters of a length in the Group 3 Marble Hill Stakes at the Curragh last month.

Despite already being favourite for the Coventry prior to his Curragh run, the victory – which earned him a Racing Post Racing of 115 – cemented his place at the top of the market for the juvenile contest, which O'Brien has won ten times.

In a statement posted to X on Monday, Coolmore said: "Group 3 Marble Hill Stakes winner Albert Einstein unfortunately will not run at Royal Ascot due to a sprained joint. He will have an easy three weeks."

In the absence of Albert Einstein, the market for the Coventry is now headed by Godolphin's Treanmor, who could provide Charlie Appleby with his first success in the race.

The Frankel colt was an impressive four-length winner on his sole start at Newmarket last month after costing €2 million at the Goffs Book 1 yearling sale in October.

O'Brien's best hope now looks to be Charles Darwin, who was last seen making all to win the same 5f contest won by River Tiber in 2023 prior to his Coventry success.

Sky Bet: 11-4 Treanmor, 7-2 Postmodern, 6 Charles Darwin, 10 Andab, 12 Military Code, Gstaad, Underwriter, 14 Extravagant, First Approach, Brussels, 16 bar.
