Flightline posts another monster figure - but did it beat his best?
Flightline posted the joint-third best dirt performance in the history of Racing Post Ratings (138) when winning the Breeders’ Cup Classic, without needing to improve his form.
Such was the level of Flightline’s win in the Pacific Classic in September, when he ran to an RPR of 140 in handing Dubai World Cup winner Country Grammer an almost 20-length beating, that improving his performance was always going to be a stiff task.
Only one horse, Frankel, has done so since RPRs began in 1988. Comparing Flightline with Frankel is a fruitless endeavour, such is the difference between racing on dirt and turf, but what Flightline did on Saturday was underline he is an all-time great.
