'A field of 12 is good news' - expert verdict on the Arc draw
The make-up of the final Arc field is qualified positive news for fans of Enable as she goes for an unprecedented third win in the race.
Given that one of her main dangers is an interrupted run, a field of 12 is good news. In any Arc this side of Dylan Thomas' win in 2007, she would have to have negotiated between four and seven more rivals.
That also gives some context to her 'wide' draw, in stall nine. It would be regarded as no more than a minor inconvenience in a normal Arc and it is therefore taken to be little worse now.
Even better, she has Japan (ten) and Ghaiyyath (12) on her outside and you can also bet that connections of Sottsass, who will likely be ridden to pick his way through, would not have been at the front of the queue for stall one.
While stall nine could have been kinder to Enable, given the wider picture she is no less likely the winner of the Arc than she was first thing this morning.
