French-trained Rooster Crowing will add significant intrigue to Saturday's Turners Mersey Novices' Hurdle, with the five-year-old arriving on Merseyside off the back of a career-best effort at Auteuil last month.
Chantilly-based trainer Mickael Seror has opted for the longer distance after scratching Rooster Crowing from Friday's ThatPrizeGuy Top Novices' Hurdle, and he will have vastly more experience than any of his rivals, given it will be his 19th start over hurdles and the 29th run in total during a career in which he has consistently outperformed his diminutive stature.
Seror, who unseated Francois Nicolle as France's champion jumps trainer in 2025, has been planning his Aintree raid for some time, aiming to exploit the fact that Rooster Crowing kept excellent company as a juvenile hurdler and did not break his maiden until August last year.
