Aintree stewards referred 31 jockeys to the BHA after it took three attempts to get the Grand National started.

Runners and riders were twice called back after some charged off before the starter was satisfied an orderly line had formed.

The starter exonerated nine jockeys, but reported the rest to the stewards, saying they approached the tape before the flag was raised.

As a result David Bass, Barry Geraghty, Jonathan Moore, Paddy Brennan, Jack Kennedy, Sean Flanagan, Katie Walsh, Noel Fehily, Sean Bowen, Sam Waley-Cohen, Jamie Codd, Robbie Power, Danny Cook, Daryl Jacob, Adrian Heskin, Charlie Deutsch, Ruby Walsh, Derek Fox, David Noonan, Paul Townend, Henry Brooke, Davy Russell, Harry Cobden, Donagh Meyler, Ger Fox, David Mullins, Bryan Cooper, Mark Enright, Robert Dunne, Jake Greenall, and Richie McLernon must wait to see if the BHA takes further action.

Earlier in the day Katie Walsh received a one-day suspension for cantering into the tape before Thursday's Foxhunters'.

The Grand National was completed with no reported serious injuries as all runners and riders returned safe on a day when temperatures soared to an unseasonably warm 19C, prompting Aintree to initiate additional welfare precautions after all races.

Horses were dowsed and given water in the wash-down area with extra measures introduced for the end of the National. Instead of heading to the winner's enclosure the first four horses to finish were dismounted on the course and taken to the wash-down area first.

Doctor Harper, who was pulled up, bled from the nose.
