Rachael Blackmore will be inducted as a Grand National Legend at Aintree this week, with a new alcohol-free bar at the track also set to be named in her honour.

The trailblazing jockey made history when becoming the first female rider to win the Grand National aboard Minella Times in 2021, and she will be inducted alongside some of the race’s most iconic figures.

Her achievement will be recognised with a plaque at Aintree during a ceremony on the opening day of the Grand National meeting.

Blackmore joins an illustrious list of names being celebrated, including Ginger McCain, Jenny Pitman and JP McManus, as well as equine greats Red Rum, Tiger Roll and Aldaniti.

A new alcohol-free facility, Blackmore’s Bar, will also be officially opened by the former rider on Thursday. The venue, which has been adorned with artwork from MurWalls and local children from Holy Rosary School, will offer coffee and refreshments as part of a broader initiative to diversify the racecourse experience.

Blackmore said: "Winning the Grand National at Aintree on Minella Times is a moment in my life I will never forget. Seeing my name included among the Grand National Legends is a huge honour and I feel very lucky to be part of that history.

"I’m also looking forward to opening Blackmore’s Bar at the racecourse, something I never thought I’d be saying. It’s a great idea and something a bit different that people can enjoy during the week."

Blackmore, who retired last May with 33 Grade 1 triumphs to her name, also enjoyed notable success at the Cheltenham Festival, where she rode 18 winners.

Dickon White, The Jockey Club’s north-west regional director, said: "Rachael’s achievement in winning the Grand National speaks for itself and it’s only right she is recognised in this way.

"We’re also excited to open Blackmore’s Bar. As an alcohol-free space, it offers something different and reflects feedback from racegoers."
