One trainer . . . Dean Ivory

Having had a taste for Dubai World Cup night with Lancelot Du Lac three years ago, the Hertfordshire-based trainer will be hoping for better luck with British Champions Sprint Stakes winner Librisa Breeze.

Having trained the six-year-old son of Mount Nelson to beat leading sprinters such as Harry Angel and Caravaggio last October, Ivory has decided to take the plunge and tackle Godolphin's hot favourite Blue Point in the Al Quoz Sprint (3.05). It could be a chance that pays off.

One jockey . . . William Buick

Dubai World Cup night is one of the most important racing days for Godolphin and William Buick will be hoping one of his high- profile rides can score a home win for Sheikh Mohammed.

Buick, 29, who has five mounts, including Hawkbill in the Sheema Classic and Blue Point in the Al Quoz Sprint, said: "Blue Point is my best chance on the night. He had a lovely prep run and everything suggests he's peaking at the right time."

Buick will also ride emphatic UAE 2,000 Guineas winner Gold Town in the UAE Derby. What price an excellent night for the Godolphin jockey?

One horse . . . Big Orange

One of the most popular horses in training, the Michael Bell-trained seven-year-old sparked joyful scenes when winning the Ascot Gold Cup last summer and nobody would begrudge him adding another Group win to his name.

Second and fourth in the Dubai Gold Cup in the last two years, he will be bidding to make it third time lucky, and with his preferred fast ground and regular partner Frankie Dettori in the saddle, he could prove tough to peg back from the front.

Owner Bill Gredley summed up his star stayer's appeal, saying this week: "I wouldn’t say he’s a freak but he’s my big lanky son who runs a four-minute mile. He stands out. Other horses have won the Gold Cup, but there seems to be a particular attachment to Big Orange."

One race . . . Dubai World Cup

This finale will ensure the Dubai carnival ends with a bang. The $10 million race, won by greats such as Cigar, Dubai Millennium and Arrogate, has attracted a typical quality field with Grade 1 winner and warm favourite West Coast and Breeders' Cup Turf hero Talismanic among the contenders.

West Coast will be seeking to give trainer Bob Baffert a second successive win in the race and a fourth overall. The showpiece contest was created by Sheikh Mohammed in 1996 and the ruler of Dubai remains as keen as ever to win it. He has two solid chances in Talismanic and Thunder Snow.
